Theory of Change
Theory of Change: What is the goal of the organization? What are they trying to achieve? What problems are they trying to change?
Youth Advocate Program's goal is to make a platform for kids reaching the end of their time within the system, so that it is easier for them to survive, independently in the community. This platform created by us advocates creates a voice for the youth and really results in a change in their lives. YAP is trying to change the "statistic" of once your in the system, you AIN'T EVA COMMIN' OUT... well that's not true!!!! We as an organization are helping to break the cycle and allow our kids to see the potential that they have.
Who is helping the organization reach these goals?
Advocates around the country are helping the organization keep a close eye on each client they are assigned and their needs that need to be met. The organization in providence has a new girls group which also makes it easier to connect with the girls within our program and be their for any support they may need.
Thanks for your post Ashley. In what you share, I think a key phrase is "break the cycle." What does this cycle typically look like for "kids in the system"? And how does YAP intervene to break the cycle? What steps are needed to bring about change for young people in the system and how will you know that you've achieved it (measurable effect)?

The cycle that I am talking about really means kids turning into adults that still depend on others completely because that is all they are used to. YAP does a great job intervening to break the cycle by making connections within the community for our youth, so they learn real life skills and how to build healthy relationships. One thing that needs to change within the system is the voice that our youth DO NOT have. DCYF often times is rigid and down to business, but we are there to build upon the youths strengths and interest causing them to strive for greatness.
